Atlanta DUI Attorney William C. Head
William C. Head is one of the most highly esteemed and recognized DUI defense attorneys in the United States. With an impeccable array of honors and awards, distinctive certifications, widely referenced authored works, and numerous special licenses, it is only natural to consider Mr. Head as “the expert” defense counselor when discussing the topic of DUI defense.
Mr. Head’s legal education began at the University of Georgia, where he graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree in 1976. He was expediently admitted to the Georgia Bar Association that same year. Mr. Head applied and was admitted to the South Carolina State Bar in 1990.
In 1995, Mr. Head was one of twelve founding regents forming the National College for DUI Defense, Inc. He also served as a Regent of the College for the first three years following its creation, and again from 2000 to 2003. The National College for DUI Defense is widely recognized as the country’s foremost training institution for DUI defense lawyers.

Counselor Head is the recipient of numerous other high-profile awards. These include: Top 100 Trial Lawyers in America, National Who’s Who Registry, Who’s Who in American Law, and Who’s Who in the World Registry.
Mr. Head is active with the bar association and other professional groups. In 1978, he served as Chairman of the Bridge-the-Gap Seminar for New Attorneys at the Institute of Continuing Legal Education.
Mr. Head has remained active, serving as chairman for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education , conducting workshops called “Defense of Drinking Drivers Institute” since 1992.
Mr. Head became of founding member of the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 1992.
He was also a founder of Advanced Forensic Science Seminar for DUI Defense Attorneys, Mastering Scientific Evidence in DUI-DWI Cases. This is an intensive study program that operated by the NCDD and the Texas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
The Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers named Mr. Head a life member in 1994. The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers awarded gun life membership in 1999.
In 1995, Mr. Head organized a three-day training session for young attorneys. This event was conducted at the Harvard University School of Law. He also developed a “DUI Bootcamp” for the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 1997. This program was designed for public defenders and appointed counsel, and taught these attorneys how to develop their trial skills. Mr. Head was the chairman again for this event in 2007.
Mr. Head became a Mentor for New Georgia Attorney in 2008.
Proper training is critical to a DUI defense attorney. Mr. Head successfully completed an intensive “Intoxilyzer 5000” course and is also certified to operate this breath testing device. He now owns an Intoxilyzer 5000EN.
Mr. Head sponsored an Intoxilyzer 5000 training course in Atlanta. During this training session, many experts spoke about the weaknesses and problems with these devices. This training week-long training course was used as a portion of Board Certification for DUI Defense. This is the only organization endorsed by the American Bar Association to certify attorneys in DUI law.
Mr. Head has sponsored many courses on the NHTSA Field Sobriety Tests. These courses, offered to criminal attorneys, are the same as the basic training course taught to law enforcement agents. This was the first training of its kind for criminal defense lawyers. Mr. Head is a NHTSA-certified field sobriety instructor.
He was authored six books on DUI-related issues, and has contributed several chapters to other books. Mr. Head’s books include 101 Ways to Avoid a Drunk Driving Conviction, The Georgia DUI Defense Trial Practice Manual and The Georgia DUI Trial Practice Manual.
Mr. Head wrote a book for citizens nationwide who have been charged with DUI, called The DUI Book. He has since offered to co-author state specific editions of this book with attorneys from other states.
Mr. Head became the second editor of the DWI Journal, a monthly DUI attorney trade publication, in 2007. He is currently on the editorial board for the DWI Journal.
Atlanta Magazine featured Mr. Head in their March 2001 cover story. After conducting a survey of Georgia attorneys, the magazine declared Mr. Head “ Atlanta’s Best DUI Lawyer.”
Mr. Head’s firm, Head, Thomas, Webb & Willis, LLC, is “av” rated by Martindale-Hubbell. This is the highest rating a law firm may receive. Martindale-Hubbell also named the firm to “The Bar Registry of Pre-Eminent Attorneys.” This is one of the highest honors a law firm can receive.
In 1992, Mr. Head founded The Georgia Defense of Drunk Drivers (DODD). This is a statewide think tank for the state’s top DUI defense lawyers. In 1999, he started www.DrunkDrivingDefense.com. This is an Internet Directory of the top DUI defense attorneys across the country.
Mr. Head has consistently been named one of Georgia’s Super Lawyers every year since 2004.

No stranger to high-profile cases, Mr. Head is representing hip hop celebrity Lil Wayne in a pending case. In 2007, he represented Rafael Furcal, a former Atlanta Braves Rookie of the Year.
Giving back to the community is important to Mr. Head. He volunteers with Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta, Children’s Cancer Unit. Mr. Head is also on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Innocence Project.
